Дар бораи ин шоир дар тазкираҳо хабаре дода нашудааст. Ҳамин қадар маълум аст, ки номи вай Аҳмад ибни Ҷаъфар ибни Яҳёи Бармакӣ буда, адибу муаррих ва ситорашинос ҳисоб меёфтааст. Ӯ соли 324-326 хиҷрӣ (935-938 милодӣ) вафот кардааст. Ин байт боқимонда аз ашъори ӯст:
Милк аз нохун ҳаме ҷудо хоҳӣ кард,
Дардат кунад, эй дӯст, хато хоҳӣ кард.
